My senior dog and cat seems really disoriented and forgetful. Can dogs and cats get senile?

Unfortunately, yes. Older pets can be susceptible to age related brain changes which are similar to the changes that occur in people with Alzheimer’s. If this is the case with your pet you can help by limiting changes within the household and maintaining the same routine your pet is used to e.g. continue taking your dog for walks if that is what he/she is used to doing. Puzzle toys can help keep them stimulated, especially if they are home alone. Ensure they are comfortable and allow them to choose a space they feel safe in. Your veterinarian may recommend supplements or medication to ease their symptoms if needed.
